Building the Foundation for Tier4 Highest-Level Computing Power – Zhongtongfu Energy Saving Wins Bid for 187 MDmaxST Low-Voltage Switchgear Units at Wuxi Telecom International Data Center Phase II
In the core hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta’s digital economy, a super-large data center built to the highest international standards is rising. Recently, good news came from the project site: Zhongtongfu Energy Saving Technology Service Co., Ltd. has successfully won the bid and fully supplied the low-voltage power distribution system for Phase III of Wuxi Telecom International Data Center, providing 187 MDmaxST low-voltage switchgear units with a total contract value of RMB 21.92 million. The implementation of this benchmark project not only sets a new record for Zhongtongfu Energy Saving’s single-project contract value but also demonstrates the solid strength of Chinese enterprises in high-end data center power distribution.
Wuxi Telecom International Data Center is one of the data centers with the highest security levelunder China Telecom Group. The entire data center is built according to the Tier4 highest-level industry standard – the internationally recognized highest availability rating for data centers, which requires unplanned downtime not exceeding 26.3 minutes per year, and all critical systems such as power supply and cooling must achieve 2N or N+1 redundancy or higher.
The data center has a total access bandwidth of 40G, a designed capacity of 4,000 racks, and a planned total investment of up to RMB 5 billion. The Phase III project currently under construction represents a single-phase investment of over RMB 1 billion and a building area of nearly 50,000 square meters, making it one of the largest and highest-standard cloud computing and AI computing power infrastructure projects in East China.

For such a high-level data center, the power supply and distribution system is regarded as the “heart” and “aorta”. Any quality defect or performance deficiency in the power distribution equipment could lead to rack power failure, service interruption, or even cascading faults. Therefore, Wuxi Telecom imposed extremely strict requirements on suppliers’ technical solutions, product quality, engineering track record, and delivery capabilities during the low-voltage power distribution equipment bidding process.
The MDmaxST low-voltage switchgear supplied by Zhongtongfu Energy Saving for this project is the result of in-depth technical cooperation with ABB. The MDmax series is a low-voltage complete switchgear product manufactured under ABB license, incorporating ABB’s decades of technical accumulation in low-voltage power distribution. It is particularly suitable for data center scenarios that demand extremely high power supply continuity, safety, and intelligent management.
In terms of structural design, the MDmaxST cabinet adopts a modular, assembled structure with fully metal-enclosed construction, achieving protection ratings from IP40 to IP54. Metal barriers are installed between vertical busbars, horizontal busbars, and functional units, providing reliable arc fault containment and isolation. Even if a short-circuit fault occurs in one drawer unit, it will not affect adjacent circuits or other functional units – this is critical in the redundant design of a Tier4 data center.
In terms of electrical performance, the MDmaxST cabinet’s main busbar is rated up to 6300A, with a short-time withstand current rating of up to 100kA, fully meeting the instantaneous inrush current and long-term stable power supply requirements of high-density rack clusters in large data centers. The cabinets come standard with ABB-branded circuit breakers and intelligent protection devices, featuring high breaking capacity and precise protection characteristic curves, effectively safeguarding the data center’s power supply security.
In terms of intelligent management, all 187 MDmaxST switchgear units supplied for this project are equipped with intelligent power monitoring terminals, connected via industrial Ethernet or RS485 bus to the data center’s centralized environment monitoring system. Maintenance personnel can monitor key parameters such as voltage, current, active power, and power quality of each feeder circuit in real time, and can issue preventive maintenance alerts based on load variation trends. This intelligent solution provides a solid data foundation for Wuxi Telecom International Data Center to achieve refined energy efficiency management.
The contract value of RMB 21.92 million and 187 MDmaxST low-voltage switchgear units – this is one of the projects with the largest number of cabinets delivered and the highest contract value for Zhongtongfu Energy Saving in a single data center project to date.
From contract signing to full equipment delivery, the Zhongtongfu Energy Saving project team faced three major challenges: First, the Tier4 standard imposes extremely strict factory testing requirements on power distribution equipment – every cabinet must pass full-function tests and provide complete type test reports; second, the project schedule was tight – the design, production scheduling, component procurement, assembly, and testing of 187 cabinets had to be completed within the agreed timeline; third, on-site construction of the data center involved frequent cross-operations, requiring precise coordination of equipment delivery with civil

As an enterprise focused on the export of low-voltage power distribution products, Zhonghuirunchi deeply relies on Zhongtongfu Energy Saving’s manufacturing system and technical accumulation. In overseas market development, especially for large-scale data center construction projects in Belt and Road countries such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, Zhonghuirunchi can use the Wuxi Telecom International Data Center case (Tier4 level, 187 MDmaxST cabinets, RMB 21.92 million contract value) as a typical performance reference to demonstrate to international customers the technical maturity and large-scale delivery capability of Zhongtongfu Energy Saving’s products.
